What I built

The Visitor Management System is a production-grade, cloud-native enterprise application for managing visitor access, tracking, and security at corporate facilities.

Visitor registration and access control. The system supports full visitor lifecycle management: pre-registration, walk-in registration, visitor photo and CNIC image capture, vehicle registration, purpose-of-visit logging, and one-click check-in/check-out. Blacklist verification runs automatically on entry, flagging any visitors marked as restricted with instant alerts to security staff.

Secure media handling. Visitor photos and identity document images are stored in AWS S3 private buckets with pre-signed URLs for time-limited, secure access. This ensures sensitive media is never publicly accessible while still being retrievable on demand by authorised users.

Scalable backend APIs. I built the backend with Next.js API routes and a MongoDB Community Edition database, implementing server-side pagination, advanced filtering (by date range, department, host, visit purpose), full-text search across visitor records, and CSV export for compliance and reporting purposes.

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). The system supports multiple user roles, super admin, security staff, department managers, and read-only viewers, with granular permissions controlling which data and operations each role can access. Authentication uses secure session management with JWT tokens.

Analytics and reporting. Real-time dashboards display visitor statistics, average visit duration, peak hours analysis, department-level traffic, and blacklist incident tracking. Automated database snapshots and recovery mechanisms are configured on the EC2 instance for data resilience.
